Air Pollution in Delhi | Is it right to blame Diwali for the pollution.

Did You Know that Air Pollution is globally the fourth leading cause of death? A recent report states that long term exposure to air pollution contributed to about 67 lakh deaths globally in 2019. Delhi is going through the same thing that is high AQI (Air Quality Index).

Speaking of AQI, let us know what it means. AQI means Air Quality Index which says how bad or good is the air quality of a place or city or a country. Every country has a different AQI according to their air quality standards. High AQI represents polluted air whereas, the lower the AQI, the less polluted air. The Capital is breaking new records by day by day. Recently, Delhi's AQI crosses 400 which is highly hazardous.

Now that I'm talking about pollution many will blame Diwali for it. I'm not saying the festival doesn't give raise to pollution but it is also not the only reason for it. I have a research report which will prove.

Research from IIT Kanpur says Delhi faces pollution crisis all year but due to winters smoke happens and coincidentally Diwali also comes at the same time. So, the Delhi Government shifts its inabilities on the festival.

Here are some reasons for Air Pollution in Delhi

Road Dusts & Vehicles - one may say vehicles dust. The dust produced by two-wheelers cars, truck etc. It is said to be the reason for 58 percent of air pollution in Delhi but have you seen any politician talk about it. Everybody is busy blaming crackers on Diwali which hardly affects two percent of air.

Industrial Sources - Although, The Delhi Government have several regulations for it. Still, it happens to be the reason for 12 percent of Delhi Air Pollution.

Domestic uses - Fuels and gases used in household give 12 percent share to air pollution.

Concrete Batching which leads the cause of 8 percent pollution smog.

Others - Occasional things like Festivals, Weddings, Parties lead to the remaining percent of pollution in Delhi.

Instead of working on the solution of the above mentioned, The Delhi Government is focusing on some rubbish cracker things which barely affect the Delhi people for two days.

How can we reduce it?

Well, now that you know the administration merely think about the pollution. You have to take things in your hand. So, I trust you to try at least 5 or 6 of them in your daily life. Let's start by

Planting Trees & Plants - you may think why everyone keeps on saying this but very few know plants are the only source who take carbon-dioxide and give oxygen. A great person once said, "One should plant a tree in their lifetime". They absorb pollutant gases such as nitrogen oxides, ozone, ammonia, sulfur dioxide. Now you know, we need plants more than ever.

• Try using Bicycle over cars or two-wheelers - Bicycle not only lesson pollution but it is also good for your health.

Avoid Burning trash, leaves, smoking, Temple rituals etc. These are some basic things a normal person in Delhi do on regular basis.

Avoid under construction areas and if you're living at one. Make sure your empty places stays damp and is not allowed to completely dry out because that will create dust.

Avoid outings & opening of windows for fresh air. Outside air is not fresh anymore, and opening windows moreover lows the air quality of your home air.
