World Mental Health Day | Detailed Information

Today's History: October 10 is Instituted as World Mental Health Day every year since 1992. This day wishes to highlight the importance of the well-being of mental health. This year's campaign goal is "Increased Investment in Mental Health".

The day gives an opportunity to all the stakeholders working on mental health to talk about their work. Not many people believe mental illness as an illness so that's why the day was marked as first. WHO (World Health Organization) recognized the mental health issue quite soon and started raising awareness since then. WHO defines Mental Illness as a major problem for the age group of 15 to 29-year-olds and Depression is one of the leading causes. Most of the countries don't provide any facility or help to the mentally ill patients. And in some countries, despite the progress, people with mental illness face discrimination in society.

The stigma attached to mental health makes it more difficult for those affected to pursue help. The best way to deal with the stigma is through facts and a better understanding of mental health problems. From identifying the causes, pinpointing solutions, and ultimately recognising.

What causes mental illness?
(Source: Vikaspedia)

Neurotransmitters: Mental illnesses have been linked to an abnormal balance of special chemicals in the brain called neurotransmitters. If these chemicals are out of balance or are not working properly, messages may not make it through the brain correctly, leading to symptoms of mental illness. Best Sellers in Books
